A common question is "What is Pilates?" Pilates is a method of exercise based on the teachings of Joseph Pilates. Pilates strengthens muscles, increases flexibility, and improves postural alignment, coordination and balance. The exercises are designed to promote proper alignment and balanced strength. Resistance is created using springs, ropes and pulleys to both stretch and strengthen muscles. The exercises are done with control and precision, emphasizing core strength (strengthening of the pelvic floor, abdomen and back), to develop overall strength, increase flexibility and good posture. Mind-body exercises like Pilates focus on the mental connection to physical movements and teaches clients to become more attuned to their bodies.
Pilates methods and principals can be applied in a variety of ways. At Synergy Pilates & Wellness, we practice Pilates on the mat, Reformer, Cadillac/Tower and the Stability Chair as well as on smaller accessory equipment.
